Today Cơm Tấm Bà Thi is a clean, bright sit-down restaurant, but the family behind it hasn’t changed: reviewers consistently call out how friendly and down-to-earth the owner and staff are, from recommending a favorite dish to sending guests home with a little extra dessert on the house.
The name comes first for a reason. Cơm tấm — rice made from broken grains — is the specialty, and unlike many kitchens that quietly swap in regular rice, this one uses the real thing under a grilled pork chop or a chicken plate piled with fragrant yellow rice. From there the menu goes deep into Vietnamese comfort food: phở that "hits the spot, especially on rainy days," bún bò Huế, and a crab noodle soup regulars come back specifically to order.
Ask about the bánh khọt or bánh xèo before you get your hopes up — the crispy shrimp cakes and turmeric crepes are so popular they sometimes sell out before close. One family says they came back twice in the same week just for the bánh xèo. Pair anything on the menu with the homemade tea, and don’t be surprised if the staff steers you toward whatever’s on the daily special.
